HATS, gloves, toys and games were among items donated by Mere Primary School to give joy to children in Bulgaria this Christmas.

The school has been hard at work collecting donations of more than 50 filled shoeboxes for the Trussell Trust appeal.

Libby Skinner, school council chairman, said: “We were amazed and moved by the number of boxes we received. Thanks to their generous donations, children all over Bulgaria will now have a Christmas present to enjoy.”

The school was supporting the St Michael’s Church appeal and the children attended a special service in the church where the community came together to hand in their shoeboxes.
