Sign up for Race for Life

WOMEN are being urged to join the fight against cancer by entering Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, which has just opened for entry.

From babies in buggies to pensioners with walking sticks, women of all ages and fitness levels can take part in the event at Hudson’s Field on July 1, running, jogging or walking the 5k route at whatever pace they choose.

The series of women-only events held across the country raise millions of pounds for the charity every year, with boys under 11 also invited to take part.

Cancer Research UK’s South West Events Manager Sam Beare said: We know many women want to take part in Race for Life but are worried they won’t be able to complete the course. We want to reassure them that Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.

“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. The really startling fact is that in the same period of time, around three people in the south west will be diagnosed with cancer.”

Cancer Research UK receives no government funding so the money raised through Race for Life is vital to fund its research into all forms of cancer.
