Art week at Mere School
CHILDREN at Mere School have been bringing Monet and Matisse to life during their annual art week.
Filbert the Artist, Paul Priestley, was welcomed back to the school for a second year, exploring the works of the artists in an interactive assembly.
He then spent time with each class, leading practical art workshops, and the children were able to use their new skills to create their own masterpieces.
Mr Priestley said: “The children produced wonderful drawings and paintings and the outcomes are particularly good because at Mere School art is not seen as just an appendage to the curriculum, but an important part of the children’s education. I really enjoyed my two days working with them.”
Among other activities, the children entered a competition to draw and colour a bird, and the winning designs will be incorporated into a mural that artist and school mum Jules Horn is painting in the library.
