AFTER years of wrangling and discussion there has been a major step forward for Wiltshire’s Core Strategy.
The plan, which sets out the long term planning principals in the county over the next 15 years, has been approved by Wiltshire Council.
The document indicates the amount of new employment land needed to support job growth and suggests figures for the number of new homes required by 2027.
Following a review, the council arrived at the decision that 37,000 new homes should be built in the county although approximately half of them have already been completed or are in the process of being developed.
The strategy has been through numerous rounds of consultations and council has been influenced by local people, businesses and other organisations.
As part of the latest round of consultation, communities commented on the plans and asked questions at exhibitions held across the county last summer.
On Monday the Wiltshire Core Strategy entered its final round of consultation which will run until April 2.
This consultation is to test the soundness of the plan before it is due to be formally submitted for examination by an independent planning inspector.
