PLUCKY Jack Russell Axel wasn’t to be deterred when thieves tried to make off with his master’s belongings.
The three-year-old dog spotted the burglars at 4am on Friday morning after his owner, Tom Barrow, opened the front door of his home in the Winterbourne valley, and set off after them as they ran away.
Mr Barrow, who had been going out to get some medicine to relieve his newborn daughter’s cold, said: “I opened the front door of my house and saw four of them. The dog went after them and they ran away.
“They’d cleared away some spare wheels I had in front of the garage and broken a fence to get in.”
The keen motocross fan, who shares his home with girlfriend Alice Birch and two-week old Sophia, believes they could have been trying to steal a bike he was advertising on internet auction site eBay.
He said: “I want to warn other people to be vigilant.”
Police asked anyone with information on the incident to call them on 101.
