New pitch for Bemerton youngsters

YOUNGSTERS from Bemerton Heath put their newly marked out pitch and goals to the test when they held a mini football tournament.

The posts, funded by Wiltshire Council and Salisbury City Council, were the result of discussions with young people living in the area, who had been asked about what they like to do and what they would like to see happen in Bemerton Heath.

The project - led by Kelly Fry, public protection officer for Wiltshire Council, and Chris Stringer, senior parks officer at Salisbury City Council - came to a fitting conclusion when a team made up of council officers and police community support officers took on a team of the youngsters that had helped pick the goals and their location, which is front of the Neighbourhood Centre.

“I'm delighted that we've been able to do this,” said Kelly. “It's been fantastic to have been able to talk to so many youngsters living and going to school in the area - and they've come up with some great ideas for what they want to see happen here. Happily, we've been able to take a first step with these goals and now it's back to work on some of the other ideas that we've been discussing.”

Future plans include a youth shelter and extension to the half-pipe skate facility off Western Way.
