MP to join charity run

SALISBURY MP John Glen will be pulling on his trainers and joining runners to support Salisbury charity the Trussell Trust this weekend.

Mr Glen will be officially starting the 10k Great Wishford Run on Sunday before taking on the 3k route to raise money for Great Wishford School and the trust, which runs a network of foodbanks to help poverty-stricken families across the UK.

Mr Glen said: “I am not an athlete, but I am a passionate supporter of the Trussell Trust. By participating in the 3k run I hope to draw attention to the valuable work that Salisbury’s Trussell Trust does to enable those in need to get through difficult times.”

The charity is experiencing a huge increase in demand at its Salisbury foodbank as more people struggle to make ends meet due to rising costs of food and fuel, combined with static incomes, high unemployment and changes to benefits. Last year the Salisbury foodbank fed more than 4,000 people in crisis.

The trust’s events manager Mark Elling said: “We’re delighted the Great Wishford Run has chosen to support the Trussell Trust. We’re growing very quickly to meet a huge need and we need all the support we can get. We’d love more people to get their running shoes on and join us on September 9 for a great race.”

For more information or to join the run go to greatwishfordrun.co.uk. Entry costs £12 for the 10k run and £4 for the 3k run
