Nurse heads off to Africa
A NURSE from Salisbury is setting off to volunteer at a hospital in Africa next week.
Lesley Howe, who has worked as a staff nurse at Salisbury District Hospital for the last 11 years, is heading to a hospital in Arusha, Tanzania, on Wednesday.
“I’ve always wanted to work abroad in my profession and it’s now or never really,” said Ms Howe.
“I love travelling and I wanted to go out there and learn some skills and enjoy what Africa has to offer.”
Ms Howe, 52, will spend a month volunteering along with a number of doctors and physiotherapists, and a group of retired people.
She said: “It will be lovely to live with a local family as well, so I can immerse myself in the culture.”

Having been trained at UK taxpayers expense, why bother to come back, when you feel 'It will be lovely to live with a local family as well, so I can immerse myself in the culture'
Well done Leslie. We are proud of you and the other volunteers who give up their own time to help people who do not have the same advantages as us.
