Open days to be held at Imber

TWO open days are set to be held at St Giles’ Church in the deserted village of Imber. The church will be open on Saturday, September 29 between 10am and 4pm and the annual service will take place at 3pm.

It will be the first service conducted by Reverend Mark Jones, recently installed as vicar of the benefice of Edington with Imber.

On Sunday, September 30, the church will be open from noon to 4pm, when there will be an attempt to score a full peal of 5,040 changes on the bells.

If successful, it will last about two-and-a-half hours.

During the open days, displays on Imber history and photographs will be on view to visitors, with refreshments available.

For 'deserted' read "stolen" from the original inhabitants - with a promise from the then War Department that they would be allowed back to their homes after hostilities ended ......

The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

The army just taketh.

I totally agree with the sentiment expressed above by didough.
