Care home planned for Amesbury development

A 60-bed care home could be part of the new Kings Gate development in Amesbury.

Bloor Homes has applied for planning permission to build 400 homes on the estate – to adjoin the Archers Gate development – along with the care home, which they hope will address the shortage of accommodation for elderly people in the town.

The proposal also includes an open space or country park, play areas and sports facilities.

Although Amesbury Town Council says it supports the application, cllr Roger Fisher has raised concerns about a proposal to include nine children’s play areas as part of the project.

“I’m not against play areas but we do have to question who will be responsible for looking after them,” he told last Tuesday’s town council meeting.

“Providing nine means there will be one for every 44 homes, which does seem quite a lot.”

Bloor Homes says it has held meetings with local representatives and planners and resubmitted plans following their representations.

A public consultation is currently underway.
