Catholic churches donate £7,000 to charities

MEMBERS of Salisbury Catholic churches have donated more than £7,000 to charities and projects locally and overseas.

The largest single donation was to The Philippine Community Fund, the major charity adopted by the churches during 2012, which provides education and training to poor families in Manila.

A grant was made to an anaesthetist from Salisbury District Hospital who will be joining a hospital ship, The Africa Mercy in Guinea in April to help fund travel and crew fees.

Locally, donations were made to Salisbury Street Pastors to help with the training costs of volunteers who work with vulnerable people on the city’s streets at night. Salisbury Trust for the Homeless received a sum for the purchase of new fridges for refurbished accommodation, and Christian education in schools will be supported by a grant to The Bridge Project.
