THE family of a 16-year-old boy found dead in Wilton last year face a wait to find out the full circumstances of his death, after an inquest was adjourned.

Kieran Lee Curtis McMenamin was found hanged in an area behind houses along Randall’s Croft Road in Wilton on November 25.

An inquest into his death at Trowbridge Town Hall on Tuesday was adjourned as one of the witnesses who saw Kieran in the hours before his death failed to attend the hearing to give evidence. Assistant deputy coroner Claire Balysz has so far heard evidence from friends, family and witnesses who saw Kieran the day before his body was discovered.

The court heard during the afternoon of November 24, Kieran had been to a meeting at a Wiltshire Council youth drug and alcohol treatment service.

Treatment specialist Tracy Jones, who carried out an initial assessment of Kieran, said he told her he regularly drank alcohol and used drugs including cannabis, cocaine, amphetamines and MDMA, but that he wanted to make changes before his drug use got out of control.

Kieran’s mum, Nickkie Pomfrett, and dad, Chris McMenamin, also said he had wanted to reduce his usage and turn his life around. Later that day, he met up with friends in Salisbury and spent the evening drinking and smoking cannabis before cycling to a friend’s house in Wilton. He didn’t return home after leaving his friend’s house and his body was found the following morning.

Kieran had previously told friends he owed money to drug dealers but his friends and family said he seemed his usual cheerful self in the days before his death. Mrs Pomfrett said her son was hoping to begin a course at Wiltshire College and start working, and that he was a “normal teenager” who enjoyed playing football, seeing his friends and playing on his Xbox.

A date for the inquest to be resumed has yet to be fixed.
