Author impressed by Mere School pupils

AUTHOR Pauline Morphy worked with children at Mere School as part of the town’s annual Literary Festival last week.
Each class in Key Stage 2 was given the chance to ask Morphy questions and she helped them to develop their own story ideas.
Morphy, author of Exiles from the Moor, encouraged the children to critique their own work and to be persistent, particularly in the face of rejection.
“Within minutes of starting each session I was impressed by the enthusiasm of the children for reading and writing and their willingness to participate,” she said.
“Nowadays, as we so frequently hear or read depressing and worrying reports of the poor reading and writing standards in this country, it is all too easy to believe the problem is far wider than it actually is. It certainly is not a problem at Mere School.
“It was lovely to have the opportunity to meet such a delightful group of children.”
