Advice on childcare
PARENTS who want to go back to work can get advice on childcare at a workshop being held at the Guildhall, Salisbury, on May 20.
The open day is one of a series being held around the county by parenting service Ask, which is contracted by Wiltshire County Council to provide advice and support to parents.
A survey carried out by the council in 2006 found that nearly 30 per cent of parents felt childcare issues had prevented them finding or keeping a job.
Focus groups held around the county last year also revealed that many parents are not aware of the financial help available to pay for childcare.
Sarah Clover, Wiltshire County Council's childcare manager, said: "Having children is life-changing and the decision to return to work after having a baby can be an extremely difficult one. Some parents feel it's important to stay at home with their child in those early years and some may have a wish or a need to return to work.
"Part of making that difficult decision will be discovering what childcare is available in your area and whether it is affordable."
Ask can also be contacted to estimate how much tax credit you might be entitled to and offer comprehensive advice in all childcare areas.
The open day at The Guildhall will run from 10am to 3pm.
