A FIREWORKS display has sparked a £2,000 boost for the Salisbury District Hospital Stars Appeal.
The money is part of the proceeds of last month's Spireworks event, organised by the Rotary Clubs of Wilton and Salisbury and with the aid of the Salisbury cycling opportunity group, COGS.
A cheque for the amount was handed over by Rotary Club of Wilton president, David Huckfield, to the Stars Appeal's Dave Cates and consultant surgeon Charles Ranabaldo when they gave talks at a recent club meeting.
Mr Cates explained the basic ideas behind the appeal and spoke about its first two goals - the Little Lives Campaign, which will benefit premature and critically ill babies, and the Keyhole Cancer Campaign, which will fund a state-of-the-art keyhole surgery theatre.
Dr Ranabaldo gave an illustrated presentation and explained how the new theatre would help to greatly improve patient care and provide Salisbury District Hospital with one of the most advanced facilities of its kind in the country.
Mr Cates also told how it was hoped to complete the appeal's first two campaigns by the end of 2007 and that plans for 2008 included the launching of the new Caring 4 Kids Campaign, which he hoped to tell the club more about at a future meeting.
