3:56pm Tuesday 17th June 2008 in Stars Appeal news By Jill Harding
THERE was fun in the sun for thousands of families as Wilton House hosted a fun day to raise funds and awareness of Salisbury's District Hospital's Caring 4 Kids Campaign.
Sunday's event attracted 5,000 people to Lord Pembroke's estate, making it the largest ever daytime gathering Wilton House has ever seen.
The crowds enjoyed a host of family fun including a duck race, traditional games, pony rides, a miniature steam train and vintage bus trips.
Entertainment was provided by E Minor pop academy and Ticklish Allsorts and there was face painting, archery and a range of other activities to keep all ages amused.
The sun shone all day and thousands of pounds were raised for the appeal which will provide a state-of-the-art children's centre at the hospital.
Within minutes the car park at Wilton House was full and a park and ride service ferried families to the gates.
"The number of people that turned up was incredible," said fundraising director at the hospital Dave Cates.
"This was really a launch event for the appeal and it was great to be able to tell so many people what we are doing.
"This was the community getting behind it's local hospital.
"These are the people who use the hospital and will benefit from the new children's centre."
