THIS month I have focused on three things on which I have campaigned actively over the last three years; local health, transport and online child protection. As the new MP for Devizes, I was acutely aware of the loss of basic health services across my constituency caused by the closure of all minor injuries units in the area I represent.

However, in recent meetings it is clear the new commissioning structure for health is already delivering real improvements and focusing on the need for more joined up primary care, including minor injuries services. I will continue to follow these welcome developments closely and reflect the needs of my constituents in the new plans.

Our efficient mainline train services were threatened by changes in the service specifications published last year. Together with neighbouring MPs, I made the case for maintaining or even improving these links at a meeting with the Minister for Transport last year and this month we saw the publication of a report that recommended improvements and electrification to one of the main local stations, Great Bedwyn.

This is half a victory but it is not nearly enough and I now have much more work to do to maintain services to Pewsey and make sure we can secure the investment for the upgrade to Bedwyn. Finally, back in Westminster I have had non-stop days working as the adviser to the PM on the critical issue of making the internet safer.

There is no magic bullet that solves this problem but we need committed politicians, engaged companies and educated consumers to reduce the harm. By working together we are seeing real results - with clean public Wi- Fi, more family friendly filters and a zero tolerance pledge from the internet industry to stop the awful scourge of child abuse images being available online.
