ONCE again a military crisis overseas is dominating the parliamentary agenda, and while there is no military mission proposed, nor any appetite for military action, a very clear message must be sent to the people of the Ukraine that they should choose their own future, and to Russia that there will be consequences to such blatant violation of international sovereignty.

Events like these matter even more in areas like ours, which are home to so many services personnel, and with the plans now well underway to accommodate the 4,000 additional troops relocating to Salisbury Plain I have also been closely monitoring this work both behind the wire and as it affects local services and communities.

I spent several hours in Larkhill last week meeting the rebasing team to assess progress and to reflect the concerns of my constituents over housing development, school places and other support services, and I would also urge anyone with views or worries about this change to review the consultation information available on the gov.uk website and respond to the issues – or let me know and I will pass them on.

I have also been visiting the areas affected by power outages and flooding in the last two months, and I was pleased last week to see more details about the Government schemes to provide cash help for householders to improve flood resilience and obtain council tax relief or to support famers who are restoring flooded land.

I have put more details on my website at claireperry.org.uk.
