BEFORE the recess, Parliament was locked in debate over Lords Reform which is important in the Westminster bubble but not so much in the real world. However I would rather a focus on what the country needs rather than spend hours debating constitutional matters so I have continued to focus on three things.

First, (and most importantly) is doing whatever I can to help the people that I represent.

Second, contributing in any way possible to sorting out the economic mess left behind by Labour. Despite headwinds from the Eurozone crisis, the Coalition government has reduced Britain’s huge budget deficit by more than a quarter in just two years as well as lowering income taxes for more than 20million people; cutting corporate taxes to the lowest level in the G7 and finding £50billion for new infrastructure projects to get growth going. With council taxes and petrol duty frozen, low interest rates and inflation now at its lowest level in three years, the cost of living pressures are easing a little bit too.

And finally, I always stand up for this great country. I am fed up with the moaning minnies of the media whinging on about Olympic problems when we are on the cusp of a brilliant feast of sport, played out in a giant new park that was delivered on time and under budget.

This month, I saw the excitement in Tidworth when the torch came through and witnessed the fantastic premiere of the Wiltshire Schools Games in Devizes, which are a direct legacy of the games. This week we have seen “Wiggo” deliver an epic performance and there will be many more like it in the next month. To top it all, the sun is shining. So my message to the media mob? Stop whinging and start smiling.
