Salisbury & District League roundup - October 20/21
9:54pm Friday 26th October 2012 in Sport
SOUTH Newton & Wishford made it four straight wins as they knocked Whiteparish out of the Charity A Cup on Saturday.
The visitors deservedly grabbed the lead after a deflected 20-yard strike, and Martin Tutton made a fine save to stop Newton going further behind. They levelled on the hour, Rich Tutton hitting his ninth of the season, and with extra time looming, Paul Merritt's 25-yard wonder strike sent Newton into the second round.
In the same competition, Stockton & Codford won 2-0 at Porton Sports. They pounced on hesitant defending to take a second-half lead against the run of play, and took advantage of a deflated Porton to get a good second goal.
Halfway House reserves comfortably saw off Deacon Alms reserves in the Charity B Cup.
Goals from Harry Bennett, Ash Bolger, Daniel Revell and a brace from Nathan Hollywood took them through to face title rivals Boscombe Down Rec Club, who were busy in Division One, winning 3-1 at Winterslow.
They took the lead after half an hour, Dan Croker outpacing the defence and unselfishly setting up Harry Gale for the opener. Croker then set up Gale for the second goal on the hour, Gale's 12th of the season, and he got a goal for himself from Thomas Brown's exquisite pass – Croker's 13th of the campaign. Winterslow scored a consolation late on.
