PORTON Sports took the lead within ten minutes at home to South Newton & Wishford, Matt Lucas slotting home Ady Hale's cross at the near post.

Ben Hatt made some vital saves to keep Porton in front, but he could not stop Rich Tutton's penalty before half time.

Tom Parker restored the home team's lead two minutes after the restart, heading in from a corner, but within five minutes Newton were level again, through Dave Warburton's fine finish. It took a brilliant individual run and finish by Andy Mearns to get the win for Porton.

Newton Manager Luke Stephens suggested: “Sometimes you play well, and get nothing.”

A scruffy goal settled an equally scruffy game between Boscombe Down Rec Club and Nomansland at a blowy Holders Road on Saturday.

Nomansland were out to make amends for a poor performance the previous game, and beat the in-form Boscombe with a goal from Dan Hayward, who was virtually sitting on the ground at the time.
