Salisbury & District League roundup - November 10/11
8:39pm Thursday 15th November 2012 in Sport
PORTON Sports sent a message to the Premier Division, destroying table toppers Halfway House 7-2.
Tom Parker opened the scoring from 20 yards, and played a 30-yard ball for Doug Malcolm to sensationally bring down and skilfully leave the last two defenders and the goalkeeper on the floor before casually slotting in the second. Parker drilled in the third from Matt Lucas' defence-splitting ball, and Dave Hartley's 20-yarder through a sea of players beat the keeper at his near post to make it 4-0 on the stroke of half time.
Centre back Luke Nicklen headed in two Neil Underwood set pieces in three minutes, and Underwood's corner provided Si Roberts with a header and the seventh goal. Halfway pulled two back, one a penalty, the other a header, late on.
South Newton and Wishford progressed to the quarter finals of the Premier Cup, following a dramatic penalty shoot-out against Deacon Alms at Stoford.
Billy Poole gave the home team the lead in the second half, but Adam Phillips forced extra time late on. Ash Melvin's free kick gave the visitors the lead soon after the restart, then Paul Merritt levelled to take it to spot kicks.
Rich Tutton blazed over the bar to give Deacons the early advantage, but Dan Targett, Mickey Ball, Phil Dewey and Tom Aldridge scored theirs to give goalkeeper Martin Tutton the chance to make himself the hero, which he did by keeping out the last two penalties and clinching a 5-4 win.
The Deacons' reserves enjoyed a resounding 8-3 win at Alderbury reserves. They raced into a four-goal lead but were pegged back to 4-3, partly courtesy of a David Downer header, before running riot again. Tom Symes, Anthony Tatner and Mike Rynne all got two, and Troy Greaves and Rich Daley netted too.
Durrington WMC recorded their first victory in over a year with a 5-2 win over Value Cars. James Kenny was the hero with a hat trick and two assists for goals from Craig Appleby and Corry Knowles.
On Sunday, Laverstock & Ford came storming out of the blocks at Royal George and were rewarded with two Sam Marr goals inside ten minutes. George pulled one back but Marr completed his hat trick before the break, and Mike Grant made it 4-1 late on.
