A SALISBURY City defender is looking for funds to help finance a career saving operation.

Chris Giles, 30, has organised bucket collections and a raffle at tomorrow’s home match against Sutton United in aim of raising £3000 towards an ankle arthroscopy operation on Wednesday (January 9).

Unfortunately for Giles, the operation in April last year was unsuccessful, and is therefore having the operation at a specialist day care clinic in London.

The Whites’ skipper made a brief return to action in October, but didn’t make a full recovery and frustratingly found himself watching from the sidelines again. But if Wednesday’s operation goes well, Giles could feature in the squad’s trip to Havant and Waterlooville in six weeks time.

“Last year was a nightmare,” he said. “It’s so frustrating watching from the stands and not being able to play, I just want to get going again.

“I’d like to thank everyone who’s supported me and for their kind contributions.”
