BOSCOMBE Down Rec Club sprung a surprise at Premier Division high-fliers Porton Sports, winning 4-3 in the Morrison Cup quarter-finals.

Dano Jones put Porton 1-0 up after ten minutes, firing into the corner after a good move, but Boscombe levelled when Charlie Croker skipped past two defenders and rifled in his 20th goal of the season from 20 yards. Mike Budd wasted the best of some good Porton chances, then Chris Young sent Harry Gale away, beating the offside trap, and the in-form striker made it 2-1 to Boscombe at the break.

Jones smashed in an equaliser from a scramble in the box and Andy Mearns hit the bar, before Ashley Fox's stunning overhead kick gave Boscombe a 3-2 lead. Porton seemed to have been awarded a penalty but play continued, then Gale's strike from outside the box extended the visitors' lead.

Some heroic defending from Danny Goodall and Martin Luke, and a point-blank save from Jason Stockwell with his face, kept Porton out, but they did manage a late consolation with an own goal.

In a Charity B Cup semi-final between the top two in Division One, Devizes Inn came out on top against a Stockton & Codford reserve side who have won all ten of their league games. Darrell Ruddock headed in a corner from Ollie Abdi Hill, the only goal of the game, in the first half. After the inerval, Stockton couldn't get past the Devizes defence.

They will meet Halfway House reserves, who beat Chalke Valley 3-2. Anthony Rochester headed into his own net to give Halfway a 20th-minute lead, and Chris Cullen made it two with a penalty. Valley pulled one back with a spot kick of their own, converted by Lee Johnson, but they then received a dubious red card.

They dug deep with ten men though and equalised, but Halfway hit back almost immediately, winning the third penalty of the game, for a handball on the line. The referee had no choice but to send off the offender, leaving Valley with nine men, and Cullen dispatched the kick.
