A GOAL either side of half-time ensured Salisbury City cemented their position at the top of Conference South.

After slipping to back-to-back defeats, the table-toppers were determined to get back to familiar winning ways.

And the road to recovery started after 20 minutes, when Ryan Brett steered the hosts into the lead.

And Jamie White’s close-range effort five minutes after the break closed the curtains on Billericay Town, who remain in a relegation scrap.

Rob Sinclair’s trickery helped break the deadlock at the Ray Mac. He darted his way through a selection of sky blue shirts and his deflected effort dropped to Brett, who stuck a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

The Whites started to command and a free-kick, minutes into the second-half, brought the second. The peering White was quickest to react to Callum Hart’s launched delivery, depositing his 20th league goal of the campaign.

Despite letting in a second, the visitors kept on plugging away in their quest for a way back. A double save from Puddy at a far post denied Rob Swaine and Junior Luke. While minutes later, Glenn Poole swept up on Puddy’s error, but his dinked lob was towered off the line by Brian Dutton.

The visitors continued chucking numbers forward but failed to conquer a consolation. Instead, Salisbury hung on to their unbeaten record at home and registered their seventh clean sheet in the league.

The Whites are back in action on Wednesday at Boreham Wood (7:45pm) then head to Havant & Waterlooville on Saturday (3pm).
