BEMERTON Heath Harlequins and Downton both suffered Wessex Premier defeats on Saturday.
Heath travelled to the Isle of Wight to take on Newport, and fell behind within five minutes, Charlie Smeeton hooking in from an unlikely angle.
Smeeton had his and Newport’s second after 13 minutes, reacting quickest to a scramble when Charlie Street failed to gather a cross.
Darren Powell bundled in a corner midway through the second half to make it 3-0 and complete the scoring, condemning Bemerton to a fourth straight defeat and taking Newport back to the top of the table.
The Robins’ loss was even more crushing, going down 6-0 at Fareham Town.
Gary Austin opened the scoring on 21 minutes and Graham Lindsey added a second five minutes before half time.
Fareham scored four more after the break, with Lindsey bagging two more to complete a hat-trick, while Liam Bradbury and Ashley Tattersall also found the net.
Bemerton and Downton both lost on their travels again on Tuesday.
Heath went down 4-3 at Moneyfields, while the Robins lost by a solitary goal at Totton & Eling.
- Both sides are in Wiltshire Senior Cup action this Saturday. Bemerton will go to Wroughton, and Downton welcome Vale of Pewsey.
