REACHING Wembley twice are memories player/assistant manager Warren Feeney will always cherish.

The 32-year-old headed to Wembley both times with Cardiff during his three year spell with the club.

But both times he came away with a loser’s medal after the Bluebirds lost 1-0 to Pompey in the 2008 FA Cup final and suffered a 3-2 defeat in the Championship play-off final with Blackpool two years later, writes Joel Holt.

Despite double defeats at the home of English football, the striker has plentiful experience which he hopes to demonstrate under tonight’s floodlights in the highprofile showdown at Vale Park.

“I’ve been lucky enough to get to Wembley twice, once through the FA Cup."

“ I want to play in all games but it’s about the team winning.

Having a good bit of experience behind me from the Football League helps and tomorrow is a game I’d give my right arm to play in.

“I’ve put myself forward to play but the gaffer has the final say and I’ll back him up 100 per cent.”

Feeney, enjoying playing and coaching with city, has a host of FA Cup memories, comprising his brace for Stockport against Huddersfield in 2004, scoring for Luton at QPR and playing in the famous 3-5 defeat to Liverpool when Xabi Alonso scored from the halfway line.

“The FA cup, to be fair, has been decent to me,” he added.

“I’ve been lucky in the competition and one game which sticks in my mind is scoring two for Stockport against Huddersfield.

“It’s a great competition to play in and hopefully I can carry on featuring in it.

“I’ve played against Micky Adams’ teams a lot of times and he has a wealth of experience as a player and manager.

“He’s one of the old school managers. He likes to keep his teams fit and has some real threats throughout his Port Vale side.”
