FEARLESS goalkeeper Will Puddy insists Salisbury City can banish their recent form lapse and return to triumphant ways if they “apply themselves”.

Puddy, along with Salisbury’s injury suffering squad, was left despondent after conceding late on in Macclesfield, which left them empty-handed.

But the 26-year-old, thriving in his second stint with the Old Sarum outfit, has backed his teammates to recover from their sticky set of results, writes Joel Holt.

“If we go on a little run we’ll be right back up there,” the Warminster-born keeper, pictured right, remarked.

“It’s extremely disheartening losing at Macclesfield but we have to take some positives out of it.

We’re playing professional outfits this year and we’ve got to apply ourselves. We’ve got a great squad of players, and people coming back from injury put a good shift in.

“It’s about finding some consistency and if we play like we did on Saturday defensively, away from home, I don’t think we’ll lose more than we win.”

Puddy sees the upcoming encounters over the next 14 days as a chance for Salisbury to push their playoff bid.

“We’ve got to take one game at a time,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to Saturday’s game with Southport.

“We’re good at home and hopefully we can use that to our advantage and get something out of the game.

“There’s no reason we can’t pick up our home form again.

“There’s no one in this league we fear but we need to make sure, regardless of who and where we are playing, that we’re solid and give a platform for our players to work on and win us games.”

Over the past few months Puddy has received specialised coaching from former Whites custodian James Bittner.

Bittner, who has filled in for Puddy just once this season because of suspension, has helped him develop and improve all aspects of his game.

“Everyone knows how much experience he has,” Puddy said.

“James is a great help. I want to keep improving every day I go into training and having him there is better than not having him.

“As long as I stay injury free then I’m happy.

“If we can record some more clean sheets and stop leaking goals it will provide us a platform to build on.”
