SALISBURY Rugby Club’s third XV gave themselves the perfect Christmas present by beating local rivals South Wilts 10-5 in foul conditions on Saturday.
With the rain making both pitch and ball slippery and a gusty wind making kicks difficult to control, both sides struggled to get into their rhythm early on.
It was South Wilts who drew first blood, running in the only try of the first half.
Salisbury showed more organisation and determination after the break and midway through the second half their efforts were rewarded with a try for replacement prop Richard West.
Further pressure led to a try from centre Kyle Phillimore.
All three conversion attempts were blown way off course by the wind leaving the final score 10-5, and a victory for Salisbury to celebrate.
