Salisbury 3

A TRIO of well-worked goals completed Salisbury City’s fightback in the Boxing Day derby as they ended their three-month wait for an away victory in Skrill Premier.

The comeback, putting them within five points of the play-offs, got underway at the Kingfield Stadium three minutes after Jack Marriott’s opener.

Tremendous work from Clovis Kamdjo, on his return from compassionate leave, slotted Chris McPhee in on goal and he steered home the low driven cross on the swivel.

Salisbury kept up the tempo and they were rewarded with a stunning second in the 25th minute, which was Ricky Wellard’s first in the non-league’s top flight.

The midfield maestro took McPhee’s pass in his stride, cut in on his left foot before unleashing a beyond Woking keeper Sam Beasant, son of goalkeeping legend Dave.

Garry Hill’s side still remained a threat at the end of the first period with Charles Banya and Marriott testing Salisbury’s cautious defending, yet they were scuppered on numerous occasions.

But the visitors remained in control and their sprightly start to the second period nearly resulted in a second, striking the woodwork twice through Theo Lewis and Angus MacDonald.

The points weren’t safe though as a nerve-jangling few minutes was on the agenda until loanee Tyler Harvey struck a fire-cracker to seal the points, giving Salisbury their seventh win over rivals Woking.

“It’s the best Christmas present I could have asked for,” City boss Mikey Harris beamed.

“I was confident in the side I put together coming into the game and I believe it would have been more comfortable if we’d taken our chances earlier on in the game. But we managed to get ourselves three goals away from home, which is very pleasing.”

“We now have two big home games to look forward to.”
