FOOTBALL League traveller Kevin Amankwaah is urging the people of Salisbury to act as the “12th man” and “roar” the Whites to victory on his home debut against runaway table-toppers Luton Town.

The right-back, tasting defeat and triumph in his past two matches since penning a short-term deal, aims to help City scotch Luton’s 25-match unbeaten run in the Skrill Premier and become the third side to beat them.

“Our home form is vital and anything we get on the road is a bonus,” said the Bristol-based player.

“We’re a good home team as the lads get plenty of balls in the final third. Teams who come to the Ray Mac find it hard to deal with us, despite me not playing there yet.

“I can’t wait to make my home debut against the top of the league, which will be a good test for all of us.

“The greater the atmosphere, the greater the game as you can rise to the occasion. I’d appeal to the Salisbury fans to come down in their numbers and cheer us on.

“Luton are flying high but you have to go into every game confident and we have a good home record and will be no push-over, but a lot of hard work will be involved. We’ll try our best and hopefully come out on top.”

As the Journal went to press, the Hatters had sold 1,200 tickets with more sales forecast ahead of Saturday’s affair (3pm).

“We don’t want to go into the game thinking Luton have a home match. At the moment they probably have more fans than us but hopefully the home supporters will come out in full swing.”

“It’s always good if you’ve got fans to roar you on. A big crowd could be the 12th man.”

Before City’s 2-0 defeat to Grimsby in front of a packed-out crowd, the 31-year-old, who has had spells at Swindon Town, Yeovil Town, Swansea City and his last club Northampton Town, spent some time bonding with the squad over their ten-day rest period.

“We’re still doing well and the defeat is a minor setback for us,” he added.

“We’re confident going into Saturday’s game against the leaders. They’re a good group of lads who have made me feel welcome. I feel like we’ve done OK and hopefully we can make the play-offs.

“To be honest, a lot of players here can play League One/Two football as there’s not much difference. Salisbury have a lot of quality players.”
