Wrexham 1

Salisbury City 1

CLOVIS Kamdjo made amends for a first half mistake with a gliding header to chalk up a vital point for Salisbury City in north Wales.

The Cameroonian midfielder was on hand to end nearly an eight-hour wait for a goal on the stroke of half time, 20 minutes after Wrexham had broken the deadlock.

Kamdjo’s dangling arm seemed to unfortunately strike Jay Harris in the area and the referee unhesitatingly pointed to the spot. Neil Ashton took the honours from 12-yards and comfortably dispatched to give new boss Kevin Wilkin a perfect start at the Racecourse Ground.

But Ashton’s opener was the hosts’ first sight at Will Puddy’s goal as it was the visitors who looked more cutting in the final third.

Chris McPhee weaved his way through only to balloon an effort into the back of the terracing and Glenn Wilson, unusually sitting in centre midfield, surged towards Andy Coughlin’s goal.

Creative build-up play but no reward left City rueing missed chances until Kamdjo popped up with a deserved equaliser at the far post.

After Elliott Frear’s corner switched to the opposite side where Stuart Sinclair was, the terrier looped a floating cross for Kamdjo to steer home his fourth goal of the campaign.

Salisbury, fresh from equalising, started with a spring in their step after the restart and Sinclair and Frear came close with similar curling efforts.

Despite a lack of possession, Wrexham still carried an attacking threat and when Dean Keates’ cross was whipped into the box, Andy Bishop was favourite to restore their lead but poked painfully wide from four yards.

With eight minutes to go, City were forced into a seldom change of keeper as Puddy came hobbling off with a calf strain, and was replaced by James Bittner, who dived straight into action.

Head coach Mikey Harris said: “It was a good point but the only negative is that we didn’t pick up a victory.

“The penalty was one of those unfortunate ones but Clovis made amends with a great goal.

“We tweaked a few things at half time and the second half performance was very pleasing.”

“Recently we’ve deserved more from our performances as we’ve been on a difficult run, but I’m proud of what the boys have achieved this season.”

Four points now separates the Whites from climbing back into the play-offs, with second placed Cambridge being Wednesday's visitors (7.45pm).
