STRIKING partners Charlie Sheringham and Jamie White both struck to secure back-to-back away wins for only the second time all season as Salisbury City added more hurt to relegated Hyde’s dismal league excursion.

The talismanic Sheringham hammered his third goal in three matches for the second half opener which was soon followed by Jamie White’s neat effort to move City up to ninth place and re-emerge into the play-off picture.

The visiting side, rejuvenated from their crucial win in Essex three days ago, made one change with Dan Fitchett coming in for the injured Clovis Kamdjo.

The single swap got straight into the thick of things early on, testing Chris Kettings who has been part of his team’s -72 goal difference.

Chris McPhee’s stature in attack posed a threat with a glancing header that missed the target from Theo Lewis’s cross.

McPhee, this time with his feet, tried his luck along with teammate Elliott Frear, who has recently been shortlisted for Player of the Year at the 2014 National Game Awards along with five other non-league hot prospects.

Meanwhile for the hosts, Josh Brizell nearly conjured the opener minutes before the first 45 minutes were over, but his effort was off target.

Despite a few changes on offer in the first 45 minutes the half ended goalless.

A quick start to the second period saw the hosts get the upper hand in the 54th minute through confident loanee Sheringham, unleashing a right-footed strike that flew into the roof of the net at Ewen Fields.

After some rampant breaks from both sides, leaving the game up for the taking with just a goal separating the two sides, White doubled City’s advantage with 19 minutes left to play.

He converted a second within five minutes of appearing from the substitutes’ bench by slotting home Elliott Frear’s cute set-up.

“I thought our energy was excellent and we scored two great goals,” said Mikey Harris, on his way back from Cheshire.

“Watching the attackers out in force reminded me of when we were flying earlier in the season.

“Obviously, that’s three in three now for Charlie and he offers a different dimension to the team.

“He’s a great lad and has fitted in very well – it feels like he has been here all season.”

Late on, 19-year-old Adam Flint, who has spent a chunk of the season at Southern Leaguers Bashley, made his senior debut in Skrill Premier and was rewarded with a signed match ball from his teammates.

“He’s had a tough time at relegated Bashley but the experience would have done him the world of good,” added Harris.

“He’s a local lad and it’s good to give him the opportunity of playing first team football.

“Glenn Wilson got everyone to sign a match ball which they presented to him.”

“It’s nice to be back in the top ten but the important thing is to follow it up with a result on Saturday when Lincoln City visit the Ray Mac (3pm).”
