BEMERTON Heath Harlequins played out a 1-1 draw in a meaningless affair with Lymington Town at Western Way.

A scrappy game, with little quality on offer, saw the hosts fall behind to James Davies’s second half strike. But a quick response from Harlequins allowed Jack Slade to nod home Jack Eves’s free-kick for a share of the spoils.

But Ian Chalk was left thinking ‘what if ?’ after Bemerton looked like they had grabbed the points late when the ball fumbled over the line only to be denied by a “confusing” refereeing decision.

“Graham Mankin just lifted the ball in the air from the halfway line and the keeper misjudged it and dropped it over the line,” he said bemused.

“I'm not sure any of my players were within five yards of him.

“We do get some strange decisions against us but I have to say that’s the greatest yet.

“However, we were poor from start to finish all over the park and the draw was the right result. The end of the season is close now and it shows in the amount of games we have played.”

In just over a week’s time, Downton will be getting ready for a do-or-die clash with Harlequins on Easter Monday after miraculously turning the chips to register back-to-back wins with Declan McGregor netting again at Fawley in a 2-0 win.

The Robins, leaping two places off the basement, go to Alresford Town on Saturday (3pm).
