SARUM Youth Seniors got their Wiltshire Premier campaign off to a steady start, coming away with a solid point against a strong Melksham Town side.
The visitors didn’t get off to the best start, conceding in the fifth minute after a defensive mix up let Melksham in.
Sarum got back into the game after falling behind and deservedly got an equaliser when a neat cross from Dan Paddington found Archie Lovegrove, who shrugged off his marker to smash the ball in from close range.
The second half continued to be a close game, with Sarum keeper Chris Brown called into action on several occasions.
Lovegrove nearly clinched all three points late on, as his free-kick looked set to curl into the top corner, only for a full length save to keep the game at stalemate.
Sarum boss Dave Rawkins said: “It was a great point and real confidence boost for them to prove that they are more than capable of playing at this level.”
