TWO days after becoming the PGA West champion, David Dixon gained the tenth win of his most successful season in the south west in one of the biggest pro-ams of the year at Salisbury and South Wilts.

The Enmore Park touring player was the last man on the course.

He needed to pick up two shots in the closing three holes to overhaul two other in-form men, long-time leaders Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) and Paul Jones (Canford Magna), who returned five-under-par 66s.

And sure enough the irrepressible Somerset man made birdies at the 16th and 17th and finished with a par three to nudge home by one shot.

Dixon’s earlier birdies at the third, fifth and seventh, plus three in a row from the ninth, also earned the grateful thanks of his team.

These helped home amateurs Kevin Bailey, David Vincent and Andrew Thornton to score 19-underpar 123 to head the team list as well.

The day was sponsored by Ringwood Brewery and the club raised money for Hope and Homes for Children.

Selected other scores: 68 Ross Langdon (South Cerney), 69 Kevin Saunders (Brokenhurst Manor), 70 Mark Searle (High Post), 71 Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest).
