BEMERTON Heath Harlequins reached the first qualifying round of the FA Cup after seeing off Bournemouth Poppies in Tuesday night’s preliminary round replay.

Following an entertaining 0-0 draw between the two sides on Saturday, they pitted their wits three days later, with the prize being a trip to Wessex league rivals Winchester City on September 13.

Sam Pekun gave Poppies the lead after 20 minutes but it was cancelled out four minutes later when Tom Roberts converted from the spot.

A corker from Jack Eves gave Bemerton a lead going into the interval and Neil Williams doubled the visitors’ cushion in the second period.

Fawzi Saadi pinched one back with a little over 20 minutes remaining but Harlequins hung on for the 3-2 victory and the £1,925 prize fund.

Before Ian Chalk’s side return to the FA Cup, they go to Wincanton Town in the FA Vase on Saturday (3pm).
