A YOUNG quartet from City of Salisbury took to the track at Southampton for the Hampshire grand prix 1500m where they all notched up their fastest ever runs.

Jay Domoney, fresh from a win and personal best in an 800m race at C o v e n t r y (2min 6.6sec), stormed round the track for the longer distance in a speedy 4min 25.03secs.

He was quickly followed by the club’s latest new prospect Josh Shuter in the under 15s who clocked an impressive 4min 27.12secs.

Sam Coles continued the successful theme in the under 13s with 4min 48.15secs.

Alex Mundell (pictured) rounded off the group’s performance in the under 20s ladies’ event when she clipped five seconds off the 14-yearold club record with a fine winning run of 4min 38.23secs.

In a 12-mile m u l t i - t e r rain race based b e t w e e n D o r s e t ’ s Jurassic coast and Corfe Castle, Craig Murphy was Salisbury’s best, crossing the line in 2hours 6min, and he was followed by Liz Roberts with 2.24, Melenie Murphy also 2.24 and Andy Robbins 2.26.

This weekend, against 30 of the south region’s top roadrunning clubs, City of Salisbury athletes, led by Stuart Holloway, begin their defence of the Hampshire road race league title.

Their men’s team have won for the past two seasons, last year by a paper-thin margin.

Their ladies’ squad, led by rising star Faye Parker, will be going all out to at least match their second placings in the ladies table.

The league programme spans distances from five miles to half marathons, all hotly contested races including the highly regarded Salisbury ten-mile in March.

First of three league fixtures this month is the Overton five-mile on Sunday, followed by the Victory 5 at Portsmouth on September 14 and the Solent half marathon in Southampton on September 28.
