SOUTH Wilts have lost the services of Ryan Burl, their 20-year old spin all-rounder, who is to remain in his native Zimbabwe and try to progress his cricket career there.

Educated at the famous Peterhouse School in Zimbabwe, Burl spent two seasons at Wilton Road, combining his cricket at South Wilts with studies at Southampton Solent University, which he has subsequently discontinued.

A hard-hitting left-hander and decent leg spinner, he played a lead role in South Wilts’ 2013 Southern Premier League and Electric t20 Cup double, scoring over 400 league runs alongside making key contributions in the twenty20.

But after returning from the ICC Under-19 World Cup in Dubai, Burl’s 2014 summer season turned sour as South Wilts opened their title defence in mid-May.

He dislocated his left shoulder in a fielding accident playing against the Hampshire Academy on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground and didn’t play again until early August.

He did, though, play in both the Southern Electric t20 Cup semi-finals and final helping South Wilts thrash Lymington under the Ageas Bowl floodlights before returning to Zimbabwe.

Burl had hoped to be selected for the current Zimbabwe A tour to Bangladesh, but wasn’t picked.

South Wilts have yet to make any decision regarding an overseas player for the 2015 season.
