BACK-TO-BACK wins were collected by Salisbury RFC in Southern Counties as they inflicted a hammering defeat over Midsomer Norton during the clubs’ first meeting.

In what was an errorstrewn first half, Salisbury headed for the interval locked on seven points, scrum-half Dave Tonge darting his way under the posts to score the try and Tom Pottage converting.

But Salisbury were extremelly close to taking a priceless lead into half time when Pottage’s penalty kick, from 30 metres out, lashed against the post.

But they were far more prolific in the second half and it wasn’t long before the floodgates opened.

Salisbury’s travelling support were entertained with some flamboyant rugby that Midsomer struggled to shut down, and James Kaminski made the score 7-12.

Having shown superb defensive skills in the first half, Pottage made an impact as he made some penetrative runs, one of which ended in a try on 53 minutes.

Despite Midsomer, against the run of play, scoring a try and trying to stage a potential comeback, Kaminski and Pottage continued business as usual with good link-up play, leading to a try each.

With the score at 14-40, a deflated Midsomer were put under further pressure when Andy Herriot received the ball in his own half and, following a weaving run, offloaded to Richard Roe who managed to score under the post. Pottage converted.

After the 14-54 rout, first team manager Matt Pallas said: “The team need to be patient and wear down the more physical teams.

“Electric displays from James Kaminski and Andy Herriot were built upon the platform laid down by the forwards.”

Salisbury welcome North Dorset on Saturday (3pm).
