AMESBURY Town mounted pressure on leaders Team Solent after they made it six league wins on the trot at relegation-threatened Romsey Town.

Nic Turpin made it seven goals in five games since returning to the Blues with his brace. He scored the opener midway through the first half and added a second in the 67th minute.

Eddie Perrett tucked home Nathan Barnett’s cross for a third and Cameron Roach completed the hard day’s work when he steamed into the box, unnoticed, to convert Danny Finnigan’s delivery in stoppage time.

Manager Gareth Horner said of his second positioned Amesbury, 4-0 winners on Saturday: “On paper, people would automatically think Amesbury away win but I knew what a tough fixture it would be as I was impressed with Romsey earlier in the year.

“Given our extra time visit to Newport, and the gutsy derby cup win against Downton, it was the end of a busy week for us.

“I was just pleased to come away with the points as although we could have been ahead in the first 30 seconds, it was a difficult half.

“Sometimes you can become complacent when you keep winning and that's something that was certainly mentioned at half time.

“The players responded and were duly awarded with the three points. It's so important we just keeping picking up points because there's now a group that have created a little gap from the others.

“It looks as though we will have a tough couple of fixtures over the next few weeks and with players away and suspended the depth of our squad will be put to the test.”

Amesbury’s Wiltshire Cup quarter final with Warminster Town has been rearranged for a week Saturday.
