SOUTH Newton and Wishford started 2015 with a spring in their step after knocking a “superb” six past Amesbury Kings Arms.
The Salisbury and District (Saturday) Premier titlechasers mounted pressure on the opposition and were rewarded with an opening goal from player/manager Keith Darling, who tapped home following a goalmouth scramble.
Billy Poole doubled the hosts’ lead going into the 15-minute rest before scoring after the resumption alongside Adam Payne, substitute Jack Henstridge and Dan Smith.
Darling said: “This was a superb win for us today, Amesbury caused us a few problems early on but once we found our feet we played some really nice football in very bad conditions.”
South Newton are now up to second and five points behind leaders Alderbury, who shaded a 15-goal extravaganza with Porton Sports 9-6.
Elsewhere, Stockton & Codford inflicted a 2-1 defeat on basement boys Sarum Youth Seniors Reserves.
