THE Wanderers ran out one-sided winners at the start of the new calendar year with a 7-1 triumph at Amesbury Kings Arms.

Central midfield summersigning from rivals Porton, Adie Hale, struck the opener with a 30-yard screamer which rocketed off the woodwork and post before going in.

That goal eased the visitors’ nerves as, within five minutes, Nick Newman had grabbed a quick fire brace.

Adam Jones was on hand to grab his first before Nick Newman completed his hattrick on 44 minutes from close-range to make it 0-5.

Kings Arms pulled a goal back early in the second half but Jones and Tim Fewins closed the game out with two more goals to close the curtains at 7-1.

Wanderers’ manager Liam McConnell said: “There was always going to be nerves playing after a five weeks’ absence from the league.”

“The weather has been so bad of late it's prevented us from training so I can understand why the first 20 minutes were sluggish on our part.

“It was pleasing to find some rhythm and score some goals. Hopefully, we can use that as momentum to go into next week's game.”

The Salisbury and District (Saturday) Premier defending champions have now moved from Victoria Park and will ply their trade at the top-class facilities at Nomansland.
