SALISBURY RFC intend on replicating their recent cup heroics when they go to Sherborne on Saturday knowing a win in “their biggest game of the season” will see them overtake their promotion-rivals and snatch second place.

The buoyant squad, who comfortably saw-off Thatcham in the cup 29-0, have promotion from Southern Counties South in their sights.

Five wins on the bounce has seen the third-placed Castle Road outfit emerge as strong candidates for promotion back to where they were relegated from last season.

After Saturday’s spectacular display on a memorable day, the Green and Whites are full of optimism ahead of this weekend’s trip to Dorset, as well as the squad being bolstered by the arrival of Rory Duncan and Dan Bennett.

“The day was also about so much more than the 15 on the field, our fantastic mini and junior section helped out with making the day so special,” said first team manager Matt Pallas.

“The community engagement opportunity this game gave us was brilliant. We’ve noticed from the demise of the city’s leading football team so many more supporters are coming to watch us.

“We’re a team on the up and so many new faces from the Salisbury area want to be part of the success, which is great.

“We will now put the cup to bed for a few weeks and turn our attention to the league, we travel down to second-placed Sherborne for probably our biggest league game of the season.

“The lads have had a good week preparing for it and are excited by the challenge that awaits them. We welcome Rory to the 1st XV squad for the first time along with fellow new boy Dan.”

Head coach Dan Jefferies said: “In preparing for the huge game this weekend, it is imperative we maintain our focus following the highs of last week.

“In the previous fixture we dominated much of the game and failed to take our chances.

“Our squad has moved on a lot since then and I know the boys can go there and get us five points.”
