THE Wanderers came unstuck for the third week running against Alderbury.

This time round, The Wanderers were eliminated from their third cup in as many weeks as Alderbury’s power force booked their place in the final of the Wilts Junior Cup.

But the 4-2 defeat didn’t look to be tilting that way, based on Wanderers’ bright start.

Liam McConnell’s men put last week’s woes behind them and came out of the traps flying. Luke Lewis nodded home Nick Newman's right wing cross on six minutes to poke their noses in front.

The visitors should and could have doubled their lead, Ben Coveney was denied from close range and Chris Guthrie saw his free kick well saved by Sam Gillott. Gillott was on hand again to deny Adam Jones moments later.

With their first attack of the game Alderbury, perching on the top of Salisbury and District (Saturday) Premier League, squared things up as Adam Phillips fired past a crowd of bodies. And things got worse for The Wanderers when Luke Hatchman dispatched a long-range effort.

The second half saw both sides come out fighting, but neither could find a way through some resolve defences.

That was until the 65th minute, when Phillips eluded two challenges and fired in off the post to put his side 3-1 up.

Fearless Newman headed home to halve the deficit before the home team’s talisman Mark Scott, inset, a hat-trick hero two weeks ago, sealed the tie in injury time after breaking clear on goal, which left the Wanderers’ defence in sixes and sevens.

In the only other game, bottom two teams Sarum Youth Seniors and Cedars FC split the points following a 4-4 blockbuster.
