UNSTOPPABLE Eddie Perrett and partner-in-crime Danny Finnigan were the goal heroes as Amesbury Town reiterated their title credentials at rivals Ringwood Town.

After last week’s catastrophic ending at home to leaders Tadley Calleva, the Blues marched back to winning ways in Wessex Division One with a 3-0 win at Long Lane.

Perrett’s brace came as a result of two crosses in each half. The first arrived on five minutes when Craig Lewis, who is also registered at Wiltshire League Premier outfit Shrewton United, crossed from the left and Perrett had the simple job of tapping in.

Ten minutes into the second period, Perrett was first to pounce as this time Cameron Roach provided the delivery.

Amesbury were coasting with a two-goal cushion and one minute into injury time they had a third. Nic Turpin’s free kick forced Rob Gillett into a smart save which he spilled and that gave Finnigan the chance to profit – and he did, from close-range.

“I was chuffed,” beamed manager Gareth Horner.

“Obviously, with the loss to Tadley, it was vital we dusted ourselves down and bounced back with a victory at Ringwood.”

“Credit to Ringwood – they are a decent side and will be difficult to beat at their place. We defended superbly and took the majority of our chances.”

“Scoring inside the first five minutes allowed us to settle and we spent the rest of the half battling the slope and strong wind.

“Credit to the lads for the way in which they applied themselves.

“I said before the game that not one side will go the remainder of the season unbeaten and the result at Romsey on Saturday for Tadley shows how competitive this league is.”

Amesbury look for their 14th campaign win at home to Hythe and Dibden on Saturday but are without Finnigan and Chris Ward, and potentially Perrett.

Horner added: “Saturday will be a tough game and we go into it without Danny Finnigan, Chris Ward and, potentially, Eddie Perrett.

That said, the squad is good enough to deal with that and hopefully we can look to pick up another three points.”

The Journal reported last week that Amesbury chairman Jason Cameron is resigning after 15 years at the club when the season ends, and the position is still vacant. If anyone is interested in taking on the role, email jasoncameron16@hotmail.com.
