THE final cross country league fixture of the season at Bournemouth was marked by another fine run by up-and-coming Abigail Burn.

Still in the under-13s’ age group, she made the most of the fast course, shooting her way round the 3k to finish in second place, a performance that secured third spot for the league season overall. Rose Warren also did well to take 30th place on the day.

Oliver Phillips was 37th in the under-13 boys with Niall Battey on his debut 38th. Among the under-15s, Heidi Porter was 46th and Tasha Mundell 50th, and in the boys’ event, Sam Cole ran well for 16th spot, with Fabrice Webb 34th.

Ella-May Hards was a good 17th in the 4k under-17’s, while in the seniors over 6k, Sarah Warren came an excellent 47th and Jill Coles 82nd, both in their first season of cross country running. Ben Brewster finished a very competent 9th in the 10k senior men’s race, with two more cross country debutants David Osment 145th and Nick Hudson 147th.

On the road, in the highly competitive Chichester Priory 10k featuring many of the south of England’s top specialists at the distance, Salisbury’s Stuart Holloway clocked an encouraging time of 33min 24secs to finish in the top 12 among 2,000 entrants.

At Lee Valley’s British Milers’ Club indoor track meet, two young Salisbury athletes produced excellent personal bests in the under-17s’ 800m.

Jay Domoney and Josh Shuter found themselves in the same race and after positioning himself well, it was Domoney who moved up from third place to take line honours in 2min 3.19secs, with Shuter in sixth with 2:7.88secs.
