IMPRESSIVE Downton FC matched high-fliers Tadley Calleva in every department as they held them to a 1-1 draw which saw the visitors concede their lead at the height of Wessex Division One.
It wasn’t the start the Robins had hoped for, though, after going behind. Following a defensive mix up, Brett Denham was able to profit and he finished the opener in style.
Downton kept the pressure and were rewarded with a goal from Craig Tyson.
After a superb passing move, Irish hitman Declan McGregor played through Tyson who fired his side back on level terms five minutes before the interval.
In the second period, Downton defended resiliently to frustrate a Tadley side, who have their sights set on winning the title.
Manager Colin Hopkins was delighted with his team.
He said: “We played how we train week in week out.
“Every player was at their best and to be fair to the lads they deserved all three points.
“There are lots of positives for Mitch and I to build on in training before Saturday’s clash with Hythe & Dibden.”
That game is a 3pm kick off.
