VETERAN forward Dean Foot rolled back the years with his four-goal heroics to help Shrewton United pull-off an impressive 7-3 success over Wroughton in the Wiltshire League Premier Division.

Foot got the rout off to a wonderful start within the opening half-an-hour.

Following some excellent defending from Martin Luke, his long-ball forward was expertly controlled by Foot who then got beyond the home defence to fire a low effort in off the post.

The hosts responded well and immediately applied pressure on Shrewton by forcing a succession of corners and the equaliser came just two minutes before the break when Ant Packer volleyed home a loose ball.

However, there was still time for United to restore the lead before half-time after a Craig Lewis free-kick bounced off the inside of the post and the alert George Plank followed up to chest home.

After the break, it was oneway traffic as Shrewton extended their lead almost immediately after a stunning overhead kick from Foot made it 3-1. And minutes later he completed his hat-trick after a mazy run by Craig Appleby led to him finding Foot on the edge of the box and he curled an accurate shot home.

To Wroughton's credit, they kept going and in the 55th minute they made it 4-2 after a headed effort was tipped onto the woodwork from Shrewton's Matt Cross before Tom Dingle followed up with a goal.

The reprieve was short-lived as Lewis finally got the goal his performance deserved after his pace took him past the home defence and with just the keeper to beat, he slotted into the net.

It was 6-2 to the Shrews in the 70th minute as Foot once again got his name on the score sheet after a neat passing move between Lee Weeks and Lewis.

At this point, they were playing some of the best football they have mustered in recent times and chances were created almost every time they went forward.

Weeks made it seven for United after some intricate passing between Lewis and Foot opened up the defence.

The hosts became increasingly frustrated as full-time approached, which showed in their rash challenges, but they were awarded a penalty late on – and it was converted.

Shrewton's manager Scott Young said: “I was delighted with that performance and on another day we would easily have scored more than ten! It was an awful pitch but some of the football we played was unbelievable at times and they couldn't live with us.”

On Saturday Shrewton entertain Trowbridge Wanderers (2.15pm).
