A SUPERB all-round performance from Sarum Youth Seniors culminated in a first clean sheet of the season as they brushed aside Vale of Pewsey 4-0.

The much-needed three points, their first haul since December 13, steered them well clear of the relegation zone in Wiltshire League Premier Division.

Sarum took the lead midway through the first half after some good fast counter-attacking football.

Dan Paddington’s menacing cross fell to Archie Lovegrove who slotted away his fourth goal of the season with an excellent finish under pressure from the defence.

In the second half, again it was Pewsey who started the brighter of the two sides. After a long ball that was not dealt with, the Pewsey striker found himself through on goal and his fierce strike was well saved and turned away for a corner by caretaker manager and goalkeeper Chris Brown.

As the second 45 minutes continued, Pewsey continued to push forward searching for an equaliser, which opened space for Sarum. And it didn’t take long for the room to be exploited as Paddington found space to drive at the wobbly defence and slot home his side’s second.

Paddington, proving too hot for the opposition, bagged another quality goal to confirm the victory.

The visitors were reeling at 3-0 and things got worse for them late on. Lovegrove got the better of his man and was hacked to the ground inside the penalty box. The spot kick was given and Mikey Joy stepped up to finish.

Brown said: “It was a terrific team performance and again I would like to thank them for the support they have shown me.”
